Acer palmatum 'Jet Black' is probably the darkest of all Japanese maples. The leaves on this cultivar are not actually true black but more of a very dark purple colour. Depending on the environmental conditions it can appear black from a distance. Colour holds very well into summer and ages to a scarlett red in the Fall. An amazing contrast tree best used with a lighter background. Better suited for the larger garden landscape. 'Jet Black' can reach 10' tall x 6' wide in 10 years.
Acer palmatum 'Jet Black' was discovered as a seedling in Oregon, USA.
