Acer palmatum 'Aratama' is dwarf maple with tiny leaves that emerge purple red in the spring. Leaves will age to green in the summer providing a two tone appearance of greens and burgundy. Fall brings on orange, red and yellow to the leaves. 'Aratama' forms a fairly dense round shrub and will grow to 3' tall x 2' wide in 10 years. It's small size makes it well suited for an ornamental planter or smaller garden landscape.
Acer palmatum 'Aratama' originated as a witch's broom and 'Aratama' means 'uncut gem' in Japanese.
