This cultivar of Chusquea culeou has dark new culms. 'Cana Prieta' is derived from the Latin language meaning blackish or very dark cane. A multitude of branches with small delicate leaves surround the node. The canes slowly fade to a gradient of yellow and black. Together with its upright growth habit make this one of the most stunning ornamental clumping bamboos.
