Acer palmatum 'Ruby Ridge' is one of the darkest leafed Japanese maples. Although new spring growth appears a bright red, it quickly ages to a very dark purple. Leaves are large and wrinkly and adds a uniqe textural element. It holds its color fairly well into summer but does age to green by the end of the summer season. Fall colors are oranges and reds. A compact, upright grower and reaching 6' tall x 3' wide in 10 years. Here at our nursery we find 'Ruby Ridge' very sensitive to direct afternoon sun and burns quite easily. Protection from hot direct sun is recommended.
Acer palmatum 'Ruby Ridge' was introduced by Buchholz Nursery in Gaston, Oregon, USA.
