Native to the Sichuan province of China, Fargesia robusta grows at elevations of 3900 to 9200 feet (1200 to 2800m). Fargesia robusta is a favorite and important food source for the famous Giant Panda.
With an open clumping growth habit, the culms grow very upright. The sheaths remain on new culms through early summer and results in an alternating pattern of light and dark colors. One of the most versatile clumping bamboos, Fargesia robusta can tolerate shade and full sun. Combined with its quick growth habit and beautiful evergreen foliage, Fargesia robusta makes a perfect screen. The combination of these characteristics make it one of the most popular bamboos for the landscape.
